Do you speak from experience? Have you raised a gender expansive child? Children with gender dysphoria maintain their identity over time. Puberty blockers are issued to kids who have been living (with or without support from their family/medical providers) with their chosen gender expression for years without any medical intervention. It is important to recognize as parents that whatever we enforce is locking our kids into a box. This is true of enforcing gender roles and heterosexuality as well. When faced with the question of giving a child gender affirming care, you must take into consideration the potential damage of NOT providing them that care. Refusing to acknowledge a child's inner truth is known to cause serious harm. Puberty blockers give young people time to consider the long term effects of their choices before committing to surgical interventions later in life. Personally, I waited until after giving birth to (and nursing) my oldest child before undergoing gender reassignment surgeries. I have absolutely no regrets about my choices and am entirely happy in my body.
